Spotify made it much more affordable to have your whole family on a Spotify Premium plan last month, but it didn't make the process of adding family members any easier. Late last month, Spotify changed the pricing for its family plans to match those of Apple Music and Google Play Music. This puts Spotify's family plan pricing in line with many other popular music streaming services available. Sadly, Spotify didn't make upgrading your account from Premium to Family any more intuitive, and user management could use some work.

Spotify Family Plan: What does it include?

Pocket-lint - Spotify originally launched its family plan in , but a lot has changed since then. When it first arrived, you paid the same amount per month for two users as you now pay for six. The aim of a family plan is to have one bill covering multiple users, with each individual able to control their own Spotify account. All six users must live at the same address. Spotify's Premium for Family Plan provides family members with access to millions of songs for just one price, payable on a single bill. The Premium experience includes the ability to listen offline to the millions of songs, as well as play any song, anytime, on any device. There are no restrictions and no ads. Across Spotify Premium for Family plan added parental controls, new playlists and better account management, including the ability to add and remove family members and update your home address. If you're new to Spotify, go to this Spotify page , then enter your information, and authorise the payment.

The company sent out a similar warning last year that asked users to confirm their exact GPS coordinates, but it ended the test shortly afterward , following privacy concerns. Now, a slightly less invasive version of the policy is part and parcel of the terms and conditions for using the family plan. If you fail to meet those criteria, Spotify notes that it can terminate or suspend your family plan. But the new terms do state that it can. Family plan sharing obviously costs Spotify a lot of money.
Here's how to decide if you should upgrade your Spotify plan, or if you should just stick to the free version of the music streaming service. After using Spotify for several years, I can't imagine using any other service for my music streaming needs. The app is one of the most-used on my phone and laptop. I'd tried Pandora and Google Play Music back in the day, but never felt compelled to invest in their premium features. When I finally gave Spotify a chance, I was quickly won over by the personalization -- the curated playlists, the radio stations and the fact that the app was constantly improving itself. My only qualm -- the library song limit -- was resolved earlier this year. I'm not alone. Since launching back in , Spotify has become one of the most popular music streaming services, building on its features and expanding to more than 50 million songs and million users. Spotify's flexibility and free tier give it a competitive edge over Apple Music. Over the last year, the music-streaming platform has added Spotify Connect for more listening options and Spotify Duo , another subscription offer between Spotify Premium and Spotify Family.
